Fiddle Encyclopedia - NEW
by Bonnie Rideout
The purpose of this book is to offer fiddlers direct access to the gems of Scottish music. Composers represented in this volume span a three hundred year period including works by Patrick MacDonald, Adam Craig, Captain Charles Duff, Simon Fraser, Robert and Joseph Lowe, Robert MacIntosh, William Marshall, and J. Scott Skinner and Rideout's original compositions. The tunes are listed in order by key signature to enable the fiddler to put sets together for performance, competition or session playing, plus marches and strathspeys, piobaireachd (pibroch) and slow airs unique to Scottish fiddling. Scottish
Fire
by Bonnie Rideout
Traditional and original tunes for fiddle from 1762 to the Present. Bonnie Rideout has been playing traditional Scottish fiddle music since the 1980s. This collection presents favorite tunes which Bonnie had stashed away over the years while awaiting the perfect opportunity to record them.
The music written here ranges from J. Scott Skinner's Dr. Gordon Stable (a wonderful fiery reel she once played to garner her first national fiddling title as a young teenager), to Fear A Bhata (a heartbreaking air she has known as long as she can remember).
These Scottish fiddle selections have been carefully transcribed from Bonnie's recording Scottish Fire (Maggie's Music).

Recorder
Early
American Roots - Recorder Edition
by Hesperus Early Music/Traditional Ensemble
It's the music book for the recording by Hesperus' Early American Roots that is for Recorder players. All the tunes on the CD for recorders (Soprano and Alto), including every improvised ornament, slur and counter melody. Single melody lines, duets, trios and with chords, too! Use this book as a technical study guide as well as a source of performing and arranging ideas. (See also: Early American Roots, violin edition)
The music for both books (Violin and Recorder edition) is a cross section of popular instrumental music from the English Colonies and early Federal America; divisions, shape note hymns, country dances and cotillions. Here the music is arranged for the recorder. When America was still a colony, music in the New World was a welcome link to the settlers' original home; England, Holland, France, Germany, Ireland and Scotland.
During the 18th century, as the colonies became independent from England, their music reflected this new freedom in its unusual textures and dissonances. Recorders and flageolets (the wooden predecessor to the tin pennywhistle) were easily carried about and made excellent solo instruments for both the new and old styles of music. They arrived in the New World in pockets, packs and bundles.

5. Hammered Dulcimer Arrangements:Seasonal ( Christmas) tunes (2-CD set)

This recording is a double CD of over 60 separate tracks of instructions for arranging and playing five Christmas pieces: In the Bleak Midwinter, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Angels We Have Heard on High, The Wexford Carol, Hush My Babe (I Shall Arise; Restoration.) This recording presents a wide variety of ideas. Most of the tunes should work well for advanced beginners. I generally present at least one simple version of the tune. But certainly the arranging ideas go well beyond that level such that intermediate and even advanced players should find many ideas to explore for some time. There are a ton of ideas presented here. This CD is well-suited to an advanced beginning as long as they recognize that many of the ideas will take much time to master. Includes the written music (stored as Word files on the CD) for the basic tune ,and 2 additional arrangements for most tunes:The basic tune; hammering; Chord progression; relative minor and 7th chords (major, minor, dominant & diminished 7th );secondary dominants;Shifting octaves;Hand separation;Basslines;Chromatics; fills, drone notes and melodic runs; fully embellished versions.

Celtic Tinwhistle - Key of D (Instrument)

It is impossible to hear a slow air played with depth of feeling on a Tinwhistle by a true Celt, without being drawn into, and sharing the emotions expressed by the player. Each of the Celtic nations has its own instrumental tradition and each claims their right to specific instruments. The Scots will assert that the bagpipes are their property; the Welsh the harp. The Irish claim the Uillean pipes as their own. One instrument played by all, and adopted by all is the Tinwhistle.
When Robert Clarke invented the Tinwhistle in 1843, little did he know that it would become the perfect wind instrument to be played universally in all the Celtic lands. It can be heard in concert halls, broadcasts, churches and above all, especially in Ireland, in the pubs. It is easy to learn to play, inexpensive and can be conveniently carried so as to be available for performances on all occasions.
Supplied in the key of 'D', this traditionally looking CELTIC Tinwhistle is finished in green with Celtic knot logo, comes attractively packaged in a box with tune sheet and fingering chart.
